First things first

They say the first one is always the hardest. I hope that's true. I have been wanting to do this for a while now but I had all of the common reservations. What would I talk about and who would want to read it? Well, I am diving into the deep end and hoping there are some of you out there who might like the same things I do. Well maybe a few of them anyway. This will be me writing about all of the things I love about my life and things I would like to make even better.

Maybe I should start by saying that there are so many things that interest me and I never seem to have the time to try them all out. But I am going to try some of them and I will let you know which meet my expectations and which don't. I like to do many kinds of crafts and I jump from one to the other freely. I like to read and again I jump around to whatever catches my fancy.

I did just finish an interesting book this morning. It was Beauty Queens by Libba Bray. To start off it was a little out of my box. The book is written for a young audience. If you haven't tried young adult literature, I encourage  you to give it a whirl. I find the genre to be refreshing. I read the entire Lone Star List of teen books last year and to my surprise I really enjoyed them all.

Back to the book. It is a rowdy romp about a bunch of teen age beauty queens en route to a competition when their airplane crashes. The author appears to have had loads of fun writing this book and it shows. Our girls show they are the equal of pirates, mercenaries, giant snakes, and broken nails as they learn to trust not only themselves but their pageant competitors to survive.

I am also working on a knit shrug for my daughter. It has several lacy stitches in it and I nearly gave up after ripping out the first section 10 times. I finally got it and it was worth it because it is going to be gorgeous. I can't wait to finish it so I can show everyone. It will also give me the opportunity to learn how to add pictures to this blog. I better go and get to work on that and I need to start reading a new book too. Choices....
